Beautiful Violet So Sparkling & True
Is that a butterfly I see in you?
Another in my kitchen window. It's amazing how little we notice until we look way up close... macro close. Need to get a plant / flower book for sure because I couldn't even tell you anymore what that little yellow thing is in the middle (too many years out of school I reckon :) but I love it. When I first saw it I had to ask the family, "Did you'll know we have little butterflies in our violets?" LOL! Maybe someone can enlighten my lack of knowledge.

on March 15, 2007Thank you for all the wonderful comments everyone.
Sorry I've been away a few days. Lots going on around here with sick kids, a neighbor passing away, and of course my wonderful trusty dial-up connection (not). Will have a daily up in a jiffy.

on March 11, 2007According to the book that I have the YELLOW things are referred to as the Stamen which is composed of two parts. The ANTHER is the YELLOW top portion and the tube connecting to the flower is the FILAMENT. The PURPLE hollow tube near the center is the PISTAL composed of the three parts. The STIGMA is at the top, the STYLE is the connecting tube and the OVARY is at the base of the tube. The African Violet is part of a subgroup that is described as Bilaterally Symmetrical Flowers that also contains the Pea and Dayflower. It is still a very nice photo regardless of what the flower parts are called.
